Kindergarten, Mont Albert North
Responding to a brief to extend a suburban kindergarten to meet global access requirements on a strict budget, our office proposed an infill addition that was succinctly placed between existing structures, reusing existing facilities where possible.
Inspired by the overt spatial transparency evident in children’s drawings, a fully glazed North facing façade provides continuity with the external play area. An automated exterior blind maximises passive solar radiation and the subsequent thermal performance of the building volume.
Within the interior, the white walls and exposed roof trusses are used to hang artwork. A storage cabinet is embellished with finger pull holes set out in a whimsical “join the dots” pattern.
The project was successfully completed within an exceptionally tight time, budget, environmental sustainability, OHS, & programmatic constraints.
"Many thanks to you for your effort with our building. We love the outcome."
